Stanford University President John Hennessy to step down in 2016

After more than 15 years at the helm of Stanford University, President John Hennessy plans to step down in summer 2016. Under Hennessy’s leadership, interdisciplinary teaching and research expanded leading to the creation of the Hasso Plattner Institute of Design, Chem-H, The Stanford Neurosciences Institute, the Stanford Woods Institute for the Environment, the Precourt Institute for Energy, the TomKat Center for Sustainable Energy, SEED and the Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies. In addition, major commitments were made to the visual and performing arts as well as increasing financial aid to preserve access and encourage diversity in the student body.
