Stanford Student Team ESV Finalist

May 15 2015

A team of Stanford researchers including undergraduates: Zach Chase and Richard Lui, PhD candidates: Avinash Balachandran and Joe Funke and Prof Chris Gerdes devised a flexible, low-cost, easy to use inflatable "popup" obstacle for real-world collision avoidance testing scenarios. This "popup" obstacle has facilitated safe testing of various obstacle avoidance systems for use with a driver present or autonomously. This team was recognized by NHTSA as a finalist for the North American region in the 2015 ESV student design competition and will represent the North American region at the ESV conference held in Gotheburg, Sweden in June 2015.
