Neuroscience pioneer Marc Tessier-Lavigne named Stanford's next president

Marc Tessier-Lavigne, former Stanford faculty member and advocate for higher education, will become Stanford University’s 11th president on Sept 1. Tessier-Lavigne, a pioneering neuroscientist, led The Rockefeller University, a premier biomedical research and graduate education institution for the past 5 years. He was the unanimous choice of the 19-member Presidential Search Committee who has been working these past 6 months reviewing candidates in a global search. From 2001-2005, Tessier-Lavigne was a professor of biological sciences at Stanford and held the Susan B. Ford Professorship.
