A team of researchers from Stanford, Facebook AI Research, and McGill University has developed a tool that measures how much electricity a machine learning project uses and how much that means in carbon emissions. A movement called "Green AI" to make machine learning cleaner and greener, involves moving training sessions to remote locations that get most of their power from renewable sources and comparing energy efficiency of different algorithms to better understand options and limit potential impacts to the environment. Link
