Researchers take a step toward novel quantum simulators
The new device, known as a quantum simulator, for now, only simulates the interactions between two quantum objects. The researchers argue in a paper published January 30 in Nature Physics that it could be scaled up relatively easily. If so, researchers could use it to simulate more complicated systems and begin answering some of the most tantalizing questions in physics.
Melissa Valentine: Understanding How Companies Best Incorporate Machine Learning
Stanford associate professor of Management Science and Engineering, Melissa Valentine, is a faculty affiliate at the Stanford Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence (HAI) and its first sabbatical scholar. Her two current primary areas of interest are how AI is impacting human expertise and how to use flash teams to innovate and solve problems.
New Report Details Costs and Structure of a National AI Research Resource
The White House-led task force behind the National AI Research Resource (NAIRR) issued its final report, asking Congress for a six-year investment to build out AI resources.
Gripping like geckos: Stanford lab develops world's "stickiest non-sticky" material
Stanford's Biomimetics and Dexterous Manipulation Lab (BDML) studies the properties of the gecko's ability to stick to surfaces. The adhesive BDML researchers developed mimics this behavior by firmly adhering to a surface when loaded in one direction and cleanly peeling off when unloaded. Gecko adhesives have potential for diverse industry applications and a start-up was founded to sell the adhesive.
