CARS Annual Meeting

Based on feedback from our 2015 Annual Meeting, the CARS 2016 Annual Meeting has been moved to Friday, October 14 at VAIL. The morning session will feature faculty and research staff presentations with student presentations in the afternoon. There will be a reception following the presentations and discussion from 4:30 - 6:30 PM. Affiliate  allocation for the Annual Meeting is 3 attendees per company.  The meeting agenda can be viewed here. We will be reaching out to affiliates for RSVP's.

Workshop on Governance of Automated Vehicles

On October 20, CARS will host along with NHTSA and the UN Economic Commission for Europe Working Party 1 an all-day workshop at VAIL on governance issues associated with automated vehicles. NHTSA, WP1 and governing bodies around the world share an interest in the range of options that might be available for carrying out the traditional government safety assurance functions and other administrative roles with respect to self-driving vehicles. Information on registration will be sent out in a separate email.

 

ME200: Judging Historical Significance Through the Automobile, Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, August 21

Co-taught by David Kelley and Reilly Brennan, ME200 looks at historical importance through the lens of the automobile culminating in the final class project of judging the recipient of the Stanford Revs Automotive Trophy at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in August.  If you will be at the Concours, look for the ME200 students on the lawn and learn about their judging criteria.

Accessible Automation Workshop, September 9, 8:30-1:00 PM

Automated vehicles will arrive on the back of a variety of advancements: in software, sensors, manufacturing, materials, regulation and more. In this in-depth workshop, we will discuss the ingredients of autonomy to learn about their progress, in effect 'unpacking' them into separate parts to ascertain their progress, integration challenges and the various design choices that producers are making. Cyber Safety of Transportation, July 13, 4:00 PM PDT

Per Enge, the Vance D. and Arlene C. Coffman Professor, Aeronautics and Astronautics will discuss the Cyber Safety effort which combines efforts from Aeronautics, Astronautics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Physics to blunt the danger to the future of transportation from cyber terrorists, e-criminals and hackers. These bad actors will now ply their trades on the mobile transactions between driverless vehicles rather than rack-bound computers. This presentation will focus on the protection of the Global Navigation Satellite Systems (i.e.

CARS/Revs Personal Mobility Workshop, June 3, 8:30 – 1:00 PM

The next CARS and Revs workshop will look at the future of personal mobility vehicles. Defined as powered vehicles with a small footprint (consider electric scooters, neighborhood electric vehicles, and even powered unicycles), they are an important enabler of micro travel within a city. The workshop will bring together small startups, large manufacturers, municipal and planning experts as well as researchers from the Stanford community. Please join us to learn and experience how personal mobility devices will change your world. Seating is limited.

2016 Innovation Masters Series “Master Class”: Design Thinking and the Art of Innovation on June 15 – 17

Twice a year the Design Group opens up our design labs and classrooms to professionals who want to learn design thinking.
